YOLO A NO-GO

As if Canadian Youngmoney rapper Drake has not already earned enough money to live lavishly for his lifetime and the next, he seeks to earn royalties off the phrase YOLO mentioned in his 2011 hit "The Motto." YOLO an acronym that means "you only live once" has gained significant popularity and has become a cultural phenomenon and mindset. Several companies such as Walgreen's and Macy's have utilized this phrase on store merchandise. Drake took to Twitter Tuesday to send a "warning" to these companies.

While rappers have been credited over the years for several lyrical catch phrases, from MC Hammer's "HammerTime" to Lil John's "Yeeeah Ookayy", Drake can not be attributed with the creation of YOLO. According to knowyourmeme.com YOLO was first used by Adam Mesh who appeared on the third season of NBC's The Average Joe. So, as it seems at least for now, Drake's royalty checks for YOLO might be a no-go.
